Will ball bearing oil or gun oil works well for lubrication shifter or brake cables on a bike?
What about the 3-in-1 oil?
In my opinion WD-40, 3in1, ball bearing grease, oil guns, lubricants, etc. are not to good for everything that is exposed to dirt or dust on a consistent basis (such as cycling in nature) as it attracts and holds the sediment, which can cause deterioration of the cable and housing and, occasionally, actually increase the stickiness and drag in the system. I recommend using a silicone lube for the cable dry. The quality chain lube works well also.
